Stimulating Activities to Support EYFS

Our aim is to provide your child with a wide variety of engaging and fun activities to help them make friends easily, gain confidence and communicate what they want – all the qualities they need for a cracking start to school life.

As well as brilliant fun, our planned activities underpin the seven important areas of learning and development outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. You can read more about this here

Brilliant Activities for Babies

For babies three months to two-years, our dedicated team of nursery staff offer an exciting range of daily activities to gently stimulate and encourage your baby’s love of learning. As well as talking, singing and playing with your baby, babies are given access to plenty of age-related toys, sensory objects and musical instruments. We also hold wonderfully sticky craft, painting and messy play sessions – which alongside generating lots of giggles, are great for helping fine-tune your baby’s hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills.

Although we have a dedicated Baby Zone within the nursery, older babies are encouraged to go where they want and choose what they want to do next, whether that’s build blocks, dress up or mess about in home corner. This natural ‘free-flow’ approach allows little ones to gain independence and hone those all important social skills.

Marvellous and Messy Activities for Toddler

We offer toddlers a wide choice of fun and stimulating activities to coach them at this important stage of their development. From gluing and sticking, building and balancing to moulding and mashing, all toddlers can get hands on with what they want to do.

As well as giving toddlers free access to different areas of the nursery, your toddler will also spend time with one of our trained dedicated keyworkers playing games to help them learn new skills, such as, counting to ten, mark making – to enable them hold a pencil – and learning songs to develop speech and language.

Outdoor Fun

When the weather’s fine, we involve all our children, including the non-snoozing babies, in lots of great outdoor activities, from sand and water play and spotting the local river wildlife, through to making mud pies and digging in our nursery garden.

The Riverside Day Nursery is close to Windsor centre, so we often take the children on walks to nearby parks and Windsor Castle.

Gentle Preparation Activities for Pre-schoolers

To get your child curious and confident for their big school adventure, three to five-year-olds engage in free-flow play – moving between activities they want to do – and spending relaxed but focused time with their keyworker.

At this stage we also introduce fun educational activities such as jolly phonics – a brilliantly child-friendly approach to learning to read and write.
