Pre-schoolers explore North America

Our current pre-school theme is North America.

Our pre-schoolers are learning about the world’s third largest continent, North America.
To help bring the theme alive for the children we visited Virginia Water Lake. As well as a gentle meander by the lake, we visited the 100 foot Totem Pole – a gift from Canada to the Queen in 1958.

We talked about the pole’s history and the children spent time drawing the totem pole before eating their packed lunch.

The children behaved wonderfully and walked really well through the park, which if you’ve been yourself, you will know is a fairly long walk, particularly for little legs. Well done children!

As part of our North America theme, we’ve created a reservation on-site where the children can play. We’re also doing fun craft activities, such as making dream catchers, drums and sheriff badges.

Fun at the Farm

We had a fab time at Odds Farm.

We were delighted that almost everyone from pre-school was able to join us on our trip to Odds Farm Park. In fact, there was so many of us, we needed a huge coach to take us there – a logistical first in the history of The Riverside Day Nursery!

The children loved travelling by coach and there was much excited chatter on board, including ‘are we there yet?’ and ‘can we eat our packed lunches now?’.

When we arrived, the children played in the big barn before taking a bumpy tractor ride around the grounds to see the cows. The children then took turns bottle feeding the baby goats before eating their yummy packed lunches.

After lunch, the children enjoyed seeing more of the farm’s animals, including lambs, donkeys, chickens and a very cute, if a little smelly, litter of piglets. The last part of the afternoon was spent playing in the adventure playground.

When we got back on the coach to come home, the children (and some of the nursery team!) were very much ready for a snooze.

You can see more photos of our day in the lobby area.
