Happy Autumn from The Riverside Day Nursery

Every bunny loves Peter Rabbit!

Dear Parents,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. It’s been two shakes of a bunny’s tail since we were last in touch, and we can hardly believe that autumn is upon us. Speaking of bunnies, a happy highlight from this year was when special guest Peter Rabbit visited the nursery at Easter. The children still chatter about the Easter egg hunt in the garden and the party games months later!

As the seasons change, we are spending more time outdoors exploring the changing trees and enjoying autumnal delights like blackberries, conkers, and acorns. Being in nature is a big part of our nursery day, as it’s wonderful for both movement and fresh air. As it turns colder, please remember to bring your child’s coat and wellies to nursery so that they stay toasty and dry.

Halloween incoming…

Our batty sensory play

With Halloween peeking at us from just around the corner, the children have been enjoying the build-up to spooky season.

Halloween is a wonderful time for getting crafty and mixing up ghoulish delights.
The older children have been trying their hand at pumpkin carving – making delicious pumpkin soup from the scooped-out parts – and playing gooey slime games. They’ve also had a ball bobbing for apples.

Our younger children have been playing spooktacular games like pin the spider on the web and rummaging for ugly bugs and beasties (we assure you they are toys!) in our Halloween-themed sensory play.

Don’t forget to dress up in your spookiest attire on Halloween, Friday 31st October.

Staff News

Congratulations to all our new mums and mums-to-be, including, Jemma, our Deputy Manager!

Baby Fever!

What can we say but the stork has been super busy at Riverside Day Nursery with lots of sweet new arrivals and bumps-to-be!

Congratulations to Grace in the Older Babies’ room, who gave birth to a baby girl, Lyla, in April. Also, to Maddi in the Pre-school room, who welcomed a baby boy, Albie, in April, and Elle in the Older Babies’ room, who had a baby boy, Sonny, in July.

Congratulations to Jemma, our Deputy Manager and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), who is expecting her first baby later this year. Jemma has been with us for 10 years and will start her maternity leave in November. Wishing you the best of luck, Jemma – we can’t wait to meet your little bundle!

Also expecting babies are Charlotte in the Toddler room, who will welcome baby number seven in March, and Charlotte in the Older Babies’ room, who will welcome her first baby in December. Congratulations, mums-to-be!

Finally, welcome back to Abbie from the Toddler room, and Emma, our Pre-school Team Leader, from maternity leave. It’s lovely to see you both.

Training Triumph

Congratulations and extra sparkly gold stars for our talented team members – Georgi, Tilly, Aysha, Daria, Ellie, Lashay, and Tianna – who gained their NVQ Diploma Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.

Also, a big well done to the 12 staff who completed their first aid certification in September. This means that every one of our nursery team is now a trained first aider.

Parent Reminders

Keeping Ill Children Away from Nursery

As we enter the season of coughs, colds, and stomach bugs, we kindly remind all parents to be cautious about sending unwell children to nursery.

If your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms, please ensure they stay home:

  • Fever (a temperature above 38°C)
  • Signs of a cold or flu (e.g., coughing, sneezing, runny nose)
  • Diarrhoea or vomiting

Children should remain at home until at least 24 hours after symptoms have fully resolved and their temperature has returned to normal.

This helps prevent the spread of illness to other children, parents, and staff.

Let’s work together to ensure everyone can stay healthy and enjoy the festive season.

Cold Weather Clothes

With colder temperatures on the way, please ensure your child has:

  • Waterproof footwear: wellies, trainers, or other sturdy shoes suitable for outdoor play
  • A waterproof coat or raincoat
  • A waterproof all-in-one suit (for babies)
  • Hats and gloves to keep them cosy on chilly days

Don’t forget to clearly label all items, including smaller essentials like hats and gloves, to avoid mix-ups.

Fee Payment Reminder

Please be reminded that nursery fees are due on the 15th of each month. If your child is absent for any reason, including illness or holidays, sessions are still payable.

If you have any concerns regarding payment, please contact Nikita, our Nursery Manager, as soon as possible in advance of payment.
