Parent Reminders

Keeping Ill Children Away from Nursery

As we enter the season of increased coughs, colds, and stomach bugs, we kindly remind all parents to be cautious about sending unwell children to nursery.

If your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms, please ensure they stay home:

  • Fever (a temperature above 38°C)
  • Signs of a cold or flu (e.g., coughing, sneezing, runny nose)
  • Diarrhoea or vomiting

Children should remain at home until at least 24 hours after symptoms have fully resolved and their temperature has returned to normal.

This helps prevent the spread of illness to other children, parents and staff.

Let’s work together to ensure everyone can stay healthy and enjoy the festive season.

Cold Weather Clothes

Jack Frost is definitely nipping at our nose!

With freezing temperatures upon us, let’s make sure our little ones stay warm, dry, and ready for outdoor fun at nursery.

Please ensure your child has:

  • Waterproof footwear: wellies, trainers, or other sturdy shoes suitable for outdoor play
  • A waterproof coat or raincoat
  • A waterproof all-in-one suit (for babies)
  • Hats and gloves to keep them cosy on chilly days

Don’t forget to clearly label all items, including smaller essentials like hats and gloves, to avoid mix-ups.

Fee Payment Reminder

Please be reminded that nursery fees are due on 15th of each month. If your child is absent for any reason due to illness or holidays, sessions are still payable.

If you have any concerns regarding payment, please contact Nikita, our Nursery Manager, as soon as possible in advance of payment.

Staffs’ Training Triumph

It isn’t just the children who learn and grow at the Riverside Day Nursery, our staff undergo important training too.

13 staff successfully completed their Early Years Professional Development Programme (EYPDP), a national professional development initiative which aims to support nursery-age children.

Nikita, the Riverside Day Nursery Manager, said:

“All our staff hold nationally recognised qualifications, but EYPDP helps build on this knowledge by developing skills in key areas, such as communication and language, early maths, and personal and social development.

“It basically means, we are the best we can be, helping lay the best possible foundation for our children’s learning and ensuring they are ready to settle in and thrive when they start school.”

The programme took approximately eight months to complete and involved staff committing to more than 60 hours of online e-learning in their own time.

Nikita adds: “We’re so proud of our team and the hard work they’ve put in – it’s not easy finding time after a full day – but they did it. Thank you and well done!”

Additionally, 12 staff completed first-aid training in August. A vital part of any nursery setting, up to date first-aid training means we have the skills to respond effectively and quickly to accidents and emergencies.

Pre-Schoolers’ Enjoy Pinocchio

There’s nothing quite like seeing a show at Christmas and our older children were beyond excited when they went to see a magical version of Pinocchio.

Pinocchio is the story of a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. A twist on the original tale, this version followed Pinocchio and Geppetto in search of a new home. Their adventures fired our little ones’ imaginations taking them on an enchanted journey to the ‘land of play’ and even inside a whale’s belly!

The children enjoyed singing along and playfully shouting back-and-forth with the actors in true panto style.

It was past bedtime for some (even our team!) but the children behaved impeccably throughout. Thankyou everyone, we hope you had a wonderful evening.
