Getting Active!

The ground is lava!
Physical activity isn’t only a great way for children to burn off boundless energy, it builds strong bones and muscles, improves coordination, and enhances cognitive function. It also means better sleep and helps set up healthy habits for the future.
Here are some of the heartbeat-raising things we’ve been doing recently:
Hartbeeps music time – the babies and toddlers love the nursery’s Hartbeeps magical music classes. Often joined by puppets Dexter Cat and Adrian Mouse, the children take a different sound journey every week. It’s fun all the way as the children sing funky versions of nursery rhymes, play with props, and pretty much dance the entire session!
Obstacle courses – we’ve taken advantage of the warm weather by creating outdoor obstacle courses. Naturally ‘the floor is lava’ and the children must climb, jump and tunnel to each obstacle. Whether jumping across blocks or swinging from monkey bars, the aim is not to touch the imaginary fiery lava beneath!
Yoga – stretching, bending and trying fun poses, like the ‘cat’ and ‘cow pose’, our yoga classes are ideal for helping the children combine play and storytelling while also building balancing and breathing skills.
Swimming – one lovely advantage of our location at Windsor Leisure Centre is having a giant swimming pool, literally on our doorstep.
The children cool off and go swimming every week. The babies’ and toddlers’ class focus on building water confidence through play and nursery rhymes, while the pre-school and ducklings’ lessons help build first swimming skills, like kicking and moving in the water.
