Babies and Toddlers turn Space Rangers!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s our super babies and toddlers!

Over the past few weeks, the babies and toddlers have been learning all about outer space.

They’ve made space rockets with their names on, alien head bands – complete with googly eyes on pipe cleaners – and paper plate flying saucers.

The toddler and baby room is brimming with fun space-themed toys to play with, including a large rocket ship with resident green alien. They’ve also been practising their space culinary skills and cooked up some delicious cupcakes decorated with white icing and chocolate stars.
To see the babies’ and toddlers’ fab name rockets and ‘free art’ display – where they have free rein to paint what they like – just ask!

Babies and Toddlers go on their summer holiday!

The babies and toddlers are enjoying dipping their toes in all things sandy and sea-watery.

Our littlest members have been learning all about the Beach and Under the Sea over the past few weeks. They’ve been enjoying lots of seaside-themed activities such as making papier-mâché beach balls, paper plate seagulls and crab hand prints.

They’ve also been cooking up some brilliant beach inspired treats, from beach ball biscuits and fruit jellies to ice cream cones and beach scene cakes. Yum, yum!

To help develop the babies’ fine motor skills, we’ve set up lots of sensory play materials to encourage scooping, pouring and mixing. The little ones have had lots of giggles searching for sea creatures in water and buried treasure in sand.

To support language development and learn about reading we’ve been reading and interpreting a variety of books, including Under the Sea, At the Beach, Commotion in the Ocean, and Clumsy Crab, a fun story about Nipper with huge clumsy claws – Snippety-snap!

Pop in to see the babies’ and toddlers’ beach art display featuring swirly seagulls and jiggly jelly fish.

Babies and Toddlers turn Jungle Explorers

Babies and toddlers explore the deep, dark jungle.

Over the past few weeks, the babies and toddlers have enjoyed lots of jungle-themed activities including making giraffe biscuits and lion face pizzas and creating some inspiring jungle artwork. Check out the children’s amazing giraffe hand prints below!

We’ve been teaching the children about the different types of animals that live in the jungle, such as lions and giraffes, and practising the different noises they make – we have some lovely loud lions in the group!

We’ve also listened to and performed actions to one of the children’s favourite stories – Rumble in the Jungle – and sung about noisy Leo the Lion. As well as great for making huge ‘roars’, these stories and songs help the children become attuned to stage one phonic sounds.

We’ve also been practising counting and identifying numbers at circle time and in different, imaginative ways throughout the day.

The seaside is coming…

In July the baby and toddler role play area will transform into a lovely sandy beach. We have lots of exciting adventures planned such as creating papier-mâché beach balls, exploring tropical fruit and jelly and making our own ‘flip flops’. Watch this space for the results!

Babies and Toddlers find out about farming

Our babies and toddlers are learning all about farms and farm animals.

Having enjoyed our Gingerbread Man theme, the babies and toddlers are learning all about farm animals and the farms they inhabit.

Home corner has been transformed into a fun farmyard featuring animals, hay and farming equipment.

We’ve also been busy making scarecrow masks, tractor sticking and painting pictures of horses using shoes and finger prints.

Of course, what theme would be complete without some messy play? Don’t worry the babies and toddlers are having lots of fun splishing and splashing toy farm animals in the water tray!
