St Patrick’s Day, St David’s Day and Persian New Year
The nursery turned a deep shade of green when the children celebrated St Patrick’s Day and St David’s Day in March.
To celebrate Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, on St David’s Day (1st March) the children enjoyed touchy-feely daffodil themed sensory play. They loved feeling the different textures of the daffodil (made of coloured rice and flour).
On St Patrick’s Day (17th March), we celebrated Saint Patrick the patron saint of Ireland with a variety of creative activities, including cutting out and decorating shamrocks – the symbol used to represent Ireland – and mixing up gorgeous green play dough.
The children also got hands-on with a special St Patrick’s themed sensory play tray featuring a shamrock, the Irish flag and a jaunty leprechaun.
Later in the month (20th March), we marked the Persian New Year (Nowruz).
Kavian’s mum kindly helped set up a Haft-sin, a table laid with seven symbolic items each starting with the letter “س” (pronounced as ‘seen’) the 15th letter in the Persian alphabet.
Each object on the table has a symbolic meaning. For example, the fresh apple (Seeb) represents beauty, while garlic (Seer) is for good health.
