Christmas is coming!

Dear Parents,

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…”

We hope you are enjoying the changing of the seasons and getting time to snuggle up on the sofa with all the family. A glorious autumn filled with crunchy leaves underfoot has now given way to a wet wintertime. For the children this means only one thing, lots of splashy puddles to jump in!

As you can imagine the children are starting to get just a little bit excited about Christmas, which is just around the corner. We have started to decorate the nursery with an array of twinkly decorations and a beautiful sparkly Christmas tree. Every room in the nursery is practising songs for our special end of year carol concert. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. As usual the concert will be followed by canapes and drinks to welcome in the festive season and toast another amazing year for your children.

To get you into the Christmas spirit we have some festive activity ideas in our top tips this month. We would love to see photographs of your days out and Christmas creations, or if you have some top tips for the festive season to share with other families, let us know at:

Welcome back!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We hope you all had lovely a summer and your little ones enjoyed themselves. The children are full of energy and chatter and, despite the turn in the weather, are still excited to play outside in our newly refurbished nursery garden. The new mud kitchen is proving a huge hit!

We’re starting to see the first hints of autumn with cooler mornings and colourful trees. There’s nothing quite like wrapping up warm and kicking up piles of leaves in the great outdoors. To help you find the perfect leaf-rummaging spots, we’ve put together some top walking places and activity ideas in our top tips this month.

Team Changes

We’re proud to say that the Riverside Day Nursery is at full occupancy and, as you may have noticed, busier than ever. To ensure the children continue to receive the close attention and high standard of care they deserve, we are currently recruiting several new staff members, so you may see some new faces over the coming weeks. As well as introducing you in person at drop off or collection, we will keep you updated with team changes in this newsletter. In the meantime, if you have any questions please do let us know.

Best wishes,

The Riverside Day Nursery Team

A warm welcome to June!

Dear Parents,

At last, the sun has got his hat on! Here at the Riverside Day Nursery, we are loving watching the little ones chase bumble bees and butterflies and splash about with water in the warmer weather. Let’s hope it stays for a while.

It was great to see so many Daddies at our celebratory Father’s Day Tea in June in advance of their special day. We hope you enjoyed putting your wits to the test in our quiz and a little bit of pampering with our afternoon tea!

Celebrating our dedicated Daddies!

School Readiness Programme 2019

Parents of our pre-schoolers should hopefully have received their School Readiness Handbook by now. The guide contains useful information and guidance for children moving up to school in September. The handbook goes hand in hand with our School Readiness Programme, which runs over six weeks, and is designed to prepare and support the children’s transition to primary school education. We welcome your feedback about the programme, and we would love you to keep in touch and let us know how your child gets on when they start school.

Our Preschool Graduation event took place on Friday 5th July to  commemorate everything our pre-schoolers have achieved during their time with us. As always, it was a bitter-sweet occasion, as we are sad but extremely proud to say goodbye to this year’s pre-schoolers:

Ettie, Katherina, Hudson, Rocco, Arthur, Theo, Kaya, Zedrick, George, Oscar, Harrison, Thomas, Ethan, Naina, Lola, Harry, Freddie, Luca and Leena.

To celebrate our leavers’ achievements, we also held a fun-filled party with disco and games.

Our fabulous Class of 2019!

Wishing you all a fantastic July.

Best wishes,

The Riverside Day Nursery Team

Hello Summer!

Dear Parents,

What a glorious turn the weather has taken, spring has almost given way to summer. The children are full of energy and are relishing the added time outside, exploring and having fun. The ducks in the park are certainly benefiting from our added trips, waddling about with full tummies!

Just in time for summer, our garden is being renovated. We have moved the slide and seesaw to make way for more ‘hands on’ gardening space for the children. We are also keen to teach them about sustainable living by growing some of our own vegetables. We will keep you updated on our progress!

It seems like a very long time ago now, but many thanks to those who came to our Easter Parade in mid-April. The children enjoyed themselves on the egg hunt and the Easter Bunny (see below) received an especially warm welcome. Our lucky Pre-schoolers visited Odds Farm recently, one of our favourite annual trips. This outing helps to properly embed what they have been learning in nursery about farming and farm animals. We even managed a tractor ride too!

This year seems to be racing by and it will soon be time for our Pre-school graduation ceremony in July. This event celebrates our leavers graduating nursery to go to school. In honour of this important milestone, we will be arranging a party and a disco to send everyone off in style. We hope to see you there!

Best wishes,

The Riverside Day Nursery Team

Spending quality time in our garden den

Everyone loved the Easter Bunny!

Marching into Spring!

Dear Parents,

We hope this finds you all well and egg-cited for Easter! This is one of our favourite times of year at the Riverside Day Nursery, we simply love watching the children craft gifts for their families and chattering about the forthcoming holiday.

As you’re probably aware by now it has been a very exciting month at the nursery. Following our Ofsted inspection, we were delighted to receive our new rating of…drum roll please… ‘OUTSTANDING’!

The perfect word to sum up our incredible team. This rating would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of all of our staff. To commend their achievement and by way of thanks, the team received vouchers to treat themselves. We also celebrated with dinner and some bubbles of course! We honestly could not be prouder.

Equally a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to all the lovely parents who supported us through the inspection process, and who spoke with the inspector to relay their positive view of our nursery and staff.

Ofsted’s report highlighted many positive points about the nursery, including:

• Children behave exceptionally well and are kind to one another.
• Staff monitor children’s development and plan precisely to ensure all children make excellent progress from their starting points.
• The quality of teaching is highly impressive, the new manager has embedded strategies to help staff to raise the quality of their interactions with children.
• Staff know their key children extremely well. They embrace every opportunity to challenge children’s thinking and teach them new skills.
• Children’s physical well-being is supported exceedingly well. Staff provide challenging outdoor learning experiences which all children thoroughly enjoy.

You can see a full copy of the report here: www.reports.ofsted.gov.uk – URN EY485275.

We hope you have a good month and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Best wishes,

The Riverside Day Nursery Team
